Sanibel Island is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, USA and covers an area of 39.3 sq km. The barrier island is famous for its shelling beaches. Due to its geographical position of east to west and its curved shrimp-like shape, the island scoops and gathers seashells along its beaches.
The climate is hot and humid in summer with temperatures ranging from 20°C–30°C. Winters are mild and sunny with temperatures ranging from 15°C–23°C. Late summers are accompanied by hurricanes and thunderstorms.
The island has a population of over 6,000. This number swells to around 20,000 during the peak tourist seasons. There are a number of hotels on the island to accommodate the tourists. Most of the hotels are located along the coastline, providing a breathtaking view of the crystal blue water.
