Summerville is situated in Dorchester County in South Carolina, USA. Situated on a pine-forested ridge, the city covers an area of 39.8 sq km and has a population of around 40,000.
The town was established after inhabitants of the Lowcountry region seeking respite from heat, mosquitoes and diseases, settled in this tiny forest colony.
Summerville has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 31°C and are generally accompanied by thunderstorms. Winters are mild with an average temperature of 13°C.
Known as ‘The Flower Town in the Pines’, Summerville attracts a large number of tourists who flock to the city in spring to enjoy the blossoming of flowers, especially the Azaleas, in the city gardens. The Flowertown Festival is held annually to display the craft and culture of the community.
