Zell am See

Zell Am See, a winter ski resort, is located in the state of Salzburg, Austria. The city, which is the administrative centre of the district of Zell Am See, is one of the Austria’s most important tourist destinations. With a population of around 9,600 inhabitants, Zell Am See is home to a calm and serene atmosphere, ideal to relax and rejuvenate. 
The city has an ideal summer climate, characterised by sunny days and a fair amount of snowfall. The city remains protected from strong winds.    
Founded by monks in the 740 AD, Zell Am See was initially known as ‘Cella in Bisonzio’. In 1357, the city attained its market rights; it attained its city rights only in 1928. In 1961, the city attained the status of a climatic spa.
Tourism and hospitality industry account for a large share of the economy. Agriculture and fishing are also practised.

The neighbouring village of Kaprun is another popular location known for its glacier, a twelfth century Roman castle and its water reservoirs. Some of the other popular attractions are the Vogtturm Homeland Museum, Hetzhaust Museum and Klamm Lake. The city also provides a number of summer activities like swimming, hockey, paragliding and ballooning. The city also hosts a number of festivals and events; some of the most popular ones being the Lake Festival and Zeller Edelweisen Festival.
