Salzburg

The Austrian city of Salzburg has a population of about 150.000 inhabitants.
The birth of Salzburg dates back to the year 696 when the missionary St. Rubert arrived and founded the Benedictine Monastery of St. Peters. The city was an independent church state ruled by the Archbishop. The organization of the spiritual leader was Vatican-like and Salzburg was called the “Rome of the North”.
Salzburg is located between two mountains Kapuzinerberg and Mönchenberg and the River Salzach. The small alleys, the colorful town homes, the beautiful gardens and the numerous castles, palaces, churches and monastery give to the city a picturesque taste.
