Biarritz, in the south-west of France, is a part of the BAB metropolis (Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz). This town of approximately 30,000 inhabitants is a world-renowned resort town.
Biarritz enjoys a mild and temperate climate largely due to its proximity to the Atlantic. Summers are pretty warm with an average temperature at 23°C, but the cool breeze from the sea makes it a pleasant time to visit. Winters in Biarritz are probably the mildest in France with the average temperature at 12°C.
Biarritz was established as an ordinary fishing village. The wife of Napoleon III was so taken by the town that she built a castle here, and then, it soon turned a holiday spot for royalty. For many years, Biarritz catered only to the wealthy, but today, it attracts tourists with all kinds of budgets.

Overall Guide : The castle built by Napoleon III has since been converted into the Hotel du Palais but some of its palatial rooms are open for view by visitors. The unique Museum of Chocolate explains the history and development of chocolates; chocolate tasting sessions and other exhibitions are also held here. The Museum Asiatica displays a collection from the East, including India, China, Tibet etc., with some of the items dating back to the prehistoric times. The Saint Martin Church was built in the eleventh century in the Gothic style. The Russian Orthodox Church attracts visitors because of its dome which has been painted sky blue on the inside. The birthplace of surfing in France, Biarritz hosts a surf festival in July which attracts surfers from far flung places like Hawaii, and even Australia.
