Crete, located in the East Mediterranean is the largest island in Greece. Around 650,000 inhabitants are housed in this picturesque place. Blessed with a scenic landscape, Crete blends the past and the present culture with much fervour and is also a popular tourist destination.
The city is defined by a temperate climate which is humid owing to the city’s proximity to the sea. Summers can get very hot whereas winters are mild with the snowfall being rare. November to February gets the maximum rainfall.
Historically, Crete was a part of the Minoan civilization and its cultural heritage is evident in the various tombs and palaces which still exist. In recent times, agriculture, farming and tourism have been the main industries.

Overall Guide : Crete enthrals visitors with its attractive scenery, beautiful monuments, vibrant festivals and various other sites of interest such as the Knossos and the Gortys. The archaeological site of Hania is delightful for its elegant architecture, beautiful mosques and mansions as well ... Leggi tutto as a picturesque ambience. The place also houses an archaeological museum and a naval museum which are worth visiting.  Another interesting place is the Heraklion Archaeological Museum which houses important relics excavated from across the city, including the statue of the snake goddess, Minoan seals and ethnic ornaments from the Greek and Roman periods. The Aquaworld Aquarium has on display exotic marine life and reptiles. Some of the creatures housed here are crocodiles, pythons and turtles, apart from the beautiful sea life. Visitors can also enjoy various festivals like the Renaissance Festival, the Lato Festival and the Summer Arts Festival.

Overall Guide : My late husband and I had a most enjoyable holiday and found the people very friendly. Stayed at Hersonnisos [in the mid 80s] but never got to Chania which we would have liked to visit. Little church in Heraklion was ... Leggi tutto very welcoming and used to go by taxi, alone, but met others who shared on return trip. Sadly unable, through age and ill health, to travel now but would love to go back to Tsilive in Zante, expect it may not be so peaceful now.
