In May me and my family visited Italy to one of our favorite drives through the Chianti region in Tuscany we had our rental car from Chianti to go and explore the countryside, I highly recommend hiring a car and exploring the beautiful countryside. Chianti is truly a beautiful place to experience rides lined with cypress trees overlooking the patchwork vineyards below. Our first day out driving in the Tuscan countryside, we headed to the nearest town in the region - Greve in Chianti which dates back to the middle ages. We saw beautiful green hills covered in vineyards, olive groves and farmhouses throughout our journey to Greve Town. It is effectively the market town of the Chianti wine area, famous as a wine growing region .Greve is situated on the base of the valley, a market town where I found several wine shops and ceramics, restaurants. The hills surrounding Greve have agriculturally based vacationing that attract peace seekers like me to centuries old farms where my whole family enjoyed staying in traditional and luxurious resorts .We were served food grown locally in the farm and moreover I relished the food which I myself hand plucked while accompanying the farm workers. I got to experience the rural life where life progressed at a slow and peaceful pace while enjoying amazing food and wine, away from hectic city life; yet a luxurious accommodation as well as swimming pools. The next day we walked down the little narrow cobblestone streets in Greve in Chianti which were quiet and nearly vacant, surrounded by beautiful old buildings on both sides of the street where we were going and finally we reached the heart of town- Piazza Matteotti, the main square. We visited few museums and monuments and enjoy a relaxing walk in and around the main square .The supermarket shops were selling food, wine, arts, crafts. It is a small town, a perfect location to wander around; there are several bars /coffee shops, wine shops, restaurants and pizzerias in and around the main square. Perfect place for an afternoon stop, lunch or dinner in the heart of Chianti. We enjoyed espresso on a stop in one of the cafes in the small streets around the main square. it's very lively with regular events including food and wine festivals with music, we got to see the weekly market on the same square which is there Every Saturday morning all year round where we shop for handicrafts hand-woven baskets and products made in olive wood. Our next visit was the city hall Palazzo del Comune built in neo-Renaissance style, churches and museums the Museum of Sacred Art. The Wine Museum which is very interesting museum any wine lover should stop at which offers wine tastings of over 200 different labels from Chianti with detailed descriptions of each wine , from its production to the tasting notes. In addition, there are many old farm machines on display, as well as 180 different corkscrews. At last we visited a place on top of a hill above Greve the beautiful Montefioralle, a small village away from Greve's main square, the Birth place of famous explorer Amerigo Vespucci who discovered New York Harbor and ancestral home which is located along the main street.
