Curepipe (pronounced cue-pip) is situated in Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. It is home to an estimated 81,600 people.
Curepipe lies on the central plateau and thus enjoys a temperate climate with cool winters and rainy, humid summers. Temperatures vary between 12-22C in winter and 18-30C in summer.

The city is known as an elegant residential town and is characterized by posh villas, shopping malls and landscaped gardens. Curepipe is also the centre of the island’s tea and model-ship building industries.
Until recently, Curepipe was the primary place of residence for French descendants. Today it has a more cosmopolitan crowd.

Overall Guide : Take a walking tour of Curepipe’s main street of historical interest, the beautiful Elizabeth Ave. Also visit the Carnegie Library; established in1917, it is known for its manuscript collection and its collection on Indian Ocean Islands. The Trou aux Cerfs, an... more extinct volcano, is the main attraction of Curepipe. From the top of the Trou aux Cerfs, you enjoy a stunning view of most of the island. You can also visit the Rempart Mount, Mount St Pierre, Pieter Both, Le Pouce and Les Trois Mamelles nearby. A small drive away is the Grand Bassin, a serene lake in the crater of an extinct volcano. The Bois Cheri Tea Factory and Museum is not far from Grand Bassin. Here you can be part of the tea making process and enjoy many flavours of tea. Also nearby is the Black River Gorges National Park, with a number of walking trails. Don’t miss the viewpoint at the Alexandra Falls. It shows off a stunning view of the Black River Gorges and the surrounding mountains.

Overall Guide : We ahve been living in Curepipe since september 2010. We have never had any reason to complain but for some water problem in our building. Its a lovely place to be in and so covenient from all angles. Transport is... more so easily available, people are so friendly and curtious, weather is so good. And everything is available at a walking distance. Even to go to far of places its very convenient. I love the church area and library is my favourite place. Life is so simple and good that we don't miss India. I wish something could be done about it to make it a real Paradise.

Overall Guide : Always bring a sweatshirt and an umbrella. Its raining most of the time there and its the coldest part of mauritius (summer 25 - 30 degrees, summer 15-25 degrees). If you are not used to Curepipe or first time there,... more bring a map with you. Taxis, buses.. You won't have any transportation to get there and to leave there. Entertainment, its an old city. Not too many great shops or shopping malls, except one or two. etc... If you visiting Mauritius, you need to go on Trou Aux Cerfs, dormant historical volcano!
Not to be missed Trou Aux Cerfs , Eating a roti or Dholl Puri , Shopping Malls

Overall Guide : Takes about a day to go round the interesting sites and the shopping. Do plan to visit the Trou aux Cerfs (extinct crater with a view point), the Municipality with a nice colonial style building, the churches St Therese and... more St Helens. look at the Royal College with the War Memorial and visit the Botanical Gardens. Do take an umbrella and a jacket.
Not to be missed Town centre with most attractions walking distance , Trou Aux Cerfs , Cinemas
