Mahébourg is a small port city located on the south-east coast of Mauritius. It lies in the bay of Grand Port and is also the capital of the Grand Port District.
The south-east coast is exposed to the south-east trade winds all year round. This renders the winter season to be very windy. The temperature in the area is approximately 22°C in winters, while it is 34°C in summers.
Being a small city, Mahébourg has about 15,800 inhabitants. As Mahébourg is a coastal city, fishing is one of the mainstays of the economy.
Mahébourg has a fascinating history behind it. The first colonisers entered the island of Mauritius through Mahébourg. Hence, the colonial influence on the city and its architecture is evident. The city of Mahébourg gets its name from the most successful French Colonial Governor, Mahe de Labourdonnais.

Overall Guide : I just love Mahebourg with its large roads unlike other towns or villages. I feel like dancing on its blue calm water. A lovely scene with the bus station just near the sea. I never get tired of admiring its... more seas which can be seen when one takes those small lanes. The "mouchoir rouge", l'ile aux phares are some of the fabulous places you can visit. Please don't forget its markets.
Not to be missed swimming , adventure on small islands around , flees markets
