Croatia Health and Safety
Tourists do not require any vaccinations to enter Croatia, but one should be aware of ticks carrying lyme-disease and encephalitis when hiking or camping (especially in continental Croatia) during the summer months.
Croatia does not have any ozone layer and so sunburn is quite possible; apply lots of SPF and drink plenty of fluids. A quick remedy is to cover the sunburnt area with cold yoghurt available at the nearest grocery.
It is advisable to stick to one’s chosen trail when walking, because of the presence of landmine fields that still exist across the region. While driving, it is mandatory to drive with headlights during day and night and avoid use of cell phones.
Evade debates on war or politics and be moderate in public displays of affection (especially when around the older generation). Croatian culture is intolerant towards homosexuality, disrespect for women and male chauvinism.
