Lucerne, capital of the Canton of Lucerne, on Lake Lucerne, is a main Swiss tourist destination in central Switzerland, where live nearly 70,000 people.
Lucern derives from an antique fishing village on the omonymous lake, where was founded a Benedectine Monastery, Saint Leodegar.
Following to the building of the railway through the Gotthard, the city of Lucern grew in importance up to become what it still is, a favourite tourist destination.
In the city is regularly organized an important summer festival for classical music, at the end of every summer. Lucerne, which covers over 25 km2, is a lovely, lively small city, rich of culture and past traditions, ideal base to explore other important sights in Switzerland.
Lucern has long been a favorite tourist destination and, as a matter of fact, its economy is still largely based on tourism, though industry is a great income, too!

Overall Guide : Not to be missed when in Luzern are the Wasserturm, a fortification from the 13th century, and the Kapellbrücke, two high examples of pure Art. The Chapel Bridge, Kapellbrücke, over 200 mt. long, is an antique bridge wooden made, from the ... The european most antique covered bridge, Spreuerbrücke, stands between Kasernenplatz and the Mühlenplatz and displays a number of paintings in medieval style, whose main theme concerns the everlasting dualism between Death and Life. The twin towers needle shaped of Saint Leodegar, the Cathedral, in late Renaissance architectural style are highly decorated inside. Löwendenkmal, commemorates the many Swiss Guards killed during the French Revolution, in 1792. The Swiss Transport Museum presents a wide variety of means of transport.

Overall Guide : It's pretty, clean, maybe a bit expensive but really wonderful, don't miss the boat trip that shows you the city from a different perspective, it's almost unreal, you feel as though you are immersed in a picture.
