Situated in Washington County in Rhode Island, USA, Charlestown is spread over an area of 153.6 sq km.
Charleston enjoys a moderate climate. Summers are warm with temperatures hovering around 24°C. Winters are generally cold with an average temperature of 1°C.
Named after King Charles II, the town was incorporated in 1738. After the arrival of white settlers, the area became a farmland due to its fertile, coastal soil.
Charlestown is famous for its beaches, especially East Beach. Located near the Ninigret Conservation Area, this remote beach is blessed with sugar-white sand and crystal blue waters. The Kimball Wildlife Refuge supports a variety of wild life and flora.
Owing to its gorgeous landscape and natural beauty, Charlestown has grown from a sleepy community to a bustling small town with a population of over 10,000.
