Orléans is the capital of Centre region in France. With 113,000 inhabitants, it is the second most populated town in this region, just before Tours.
Orléans is crossed by the Loire river (the Loire Valley is a World Heritage Site promoted by UNESCO since 2000), and there are five monumental bridges which crosses the river.
One of the most important monument in town is the Saint Cross Cathedral, but the Joan of Arc House and the Fine Arts Museum are also very visited by tourists.
The US city of New Orleans is named after Orléans, because it was founded by French explorers. The French name of this town is, in fact, Ville de La Nouvelle-Orléans.
