Quintana Roo, Mexico has an area of 50,212 sq km and a population of about 1,135,300. Its capital is Chetumal.

Quintana Roo shares its borders with Belize and Guatemala and the Mexican states of Campeche and Yucatan; it is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea to the north and east. It has an extensive coastline along the Caribbean Sea along with tropical jungles and savannah land.

This region was dominated by the Mayans, before Spanish occupation. The population here is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry).
